Aravon Sports
At Aravon we place great emphasis on physical education and encourage an enthusiastic enjoyment of sport. We believe it is essential for children to develop an early awareness of the importance of exercise and its relationship to their overall well being for life.We encourage a healthy attitude to competition, placing a premium on teamwork and sportsmanship, and provide an environment where children can enjoy the benefits of physical exercise in a truly magnificent setting.
Games are available five days a week
Our principal sports are Rugby, Hockey and Cricket with additional participation in Tennis, Netball, Athletics, Rounders and Cross Country running.
The Physical Education and Games programme at Aravon gives the children the opportunity to acquire and develop skills that will enable them to become accomplished and intelligent performers of increasing physical competence and confidence across a broad range of physical activities and contexts.
Great emphasis is placed on the understanding of the relationship between physical activity and overall health, along with the feeling of satisfaction and achievement. By being encouraged to participate fully in all forms of sporting activity and by developing their individual strengths, they learn to select and apply skills and tactics and develop their own ideas.
In order to develop skills in the early years we aim to provide a basic foundation upon which pupils may build, while developing a wide range of motor and physical skills to improve body awareness.
Through frequent practical participation the children acquire knowledge and experience.
Sports we teach
Pupils in the junior forms learn the basics of Hockey, Netball, Tennis, Football, Basketball, Golf, Cricket, Volleyball and more with an emphasis on ‘The Three Fs’ - Flexibility, Fitness and Fun, while also participating in exciting ‘PlayBall’ sessions.
PlayBall is a program specifically designed to develop life skills such as independence, concentration, teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.

Team Sports
The older children have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the environment of competitive fixtures against other schools, primarily in Rugby, Hockey and Cricket.
Although we naturally like to win, the emphasis is primarily on participation, enjoyment, achievement and satisfaction and above all, good sportsmanship.

Swimming
One of our aims is that every child should be able to swim, so there are regular swimming lessons with experienced qualified instructors.
The members of the sports staff have a great love and passion for the games they promote and coach, and in many instances have themselves attained a high standard as players.
Our coaches understand the importance of teamwork and of a combined ‘work ethic’ and make every effort to encourage this in the children under their care.
