Aravon Music

Great emphasis is placed on music at Aravon as we feel a love of music engenders feelings of satisfaction, broadens horizons, and is something that will stay with the children for the rest of their lives.

At a school where the standard of music is the envy of many others, students flourish in an atmosphere of positive performance.

The value of musical education is inestimable in its proven development of confidence and self-esteem and here at Aravon there is truly something for every child.

Whether in the daily School Assembly or in their class choir sessions, all pupils at Aravon, from junior classes upwards, sing!

Learning to Perform

Once a month, there is a music assembly when pupils are encouraged to play their instruments to an audience of their peers.

Tuition

Class recorder lessons are given to all children from first to third class. The classes are small and provide pupils with the opportunity to learn to read music as well as introducing them to other instruments and encouraging the enjoyment of music generally.

Aravon offers individual and group tuition on a broad range of instruments including piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, recorder, and drums. more

The Music Room

The school boasts a state-of-the-art Music Room, providing the full range of professional instruments from the smallest tambourine to a full sound system electronic keyboard and a set of timpani.  The range of instruments is added to each year.

As a child does not have to own an instrument in order to learn to play it, the school runs a rental scheme through which, for a nominal amount, an instrument may be rented for a year. All money collected through this scheme is reinvested in the music department and is used to purchase more instruments.

The music staff at Aravon is made up of dedicated professionals who work at the very core of Ireland's musical life, whose own love of music nurtures a spirit of enjoyment in their students.

Individual music lessons, whether instrumental or vocal, are of thirty minutes duration.  Pupils are provided with a practice book which is updated on a weekly basis, enabling parents to keep track of their child’s progress. Aravon strongly encourages the participation of parents in the musical development of their children.

Music Events

Repeatedly excelling at Music Festivals the high standards achieved by the Aravon Choir and Orchestra speak for themselves.

The annual Christmas and summer concerts in which the choir and orchestra perform are a major musical highlight and The Aravon Music Festival is held at the school each year in May.

In the early 90’s the festival usually lasted about two hours but now, due to the pupil’s growing interest in music it takes two days!

The annual Aravon Musical Drama production is an shining example of pupils, parents and the school working together to produce a piece of musical theatre that is invariably thoroughly entertaining.

Aravon School offers each child the chance to find his or her individual musical identity. The seeds of excellence are sown and, as is abundantly evident from the achievements of past pupils, they continue to flourish.
