About Aravon
Our Policy on Bullying
At Aravon, we espouse the notion of promoting an environment free from bullying and acknowledge the common responsibility to act in preventing bullying/aggressive or anti-social behavior.
Strategies employed by the school:
- Fostering a culture of "telling". This includes on-going work by class teachers and specialist teachers to highlight issues relating to bullying.
- Implementation of the 'Stay Safe Programme'.
- The use of "No Blame" approaches.
- All instances of bullying are to be reported to the Principal who interviews all concerned. A written record of the interview is made by the Principal.
- In cases where it is determined that bullying has occurred, a meeting is held with the parents of both parties, as appropriate. Actions to be taken are explained and parental support is enlisted.
- Follow-up meetings with the Principal or an appointed teacher and the children involved may take place.
- Changing areas and non-classroom activities (i.e. "wet breaks", moving from class to class) are recognised as periods of high risk and teachers are required to be vigilant.
- From time to time professional speakers are invited to talk to staff and/or parents to give ideas on dealing with both the victim and the bully.
